Medieval Costumes in the epochs

The middle ages is commonly divided in three big epochs. At the question which medieval costume you choose it is very important which epoch the representation is associating with. In the european early middle ages, which has taken place from the 4. to the 10. century, the status differences in the clothing were not very pronounced in difference with later epochs. The clothing was oriented strongly on a pragmatic point of view. From the 11. to the 12. century - the high middle ages - status differences were made clear through clothing.

Fashion got more important and would contain more expensive decorations, new fabrics and new colors.

The late middle ages begun in the 13. century. Fashion were now embussed through unpragmatic but more representative clothes. Now female hats were very popular, that were wrapped so hard around the chin so women couldn't speak anymore.
